POST: EDUCATION PSYCHOLOGIST
SALARY: R811 560 per annum (Level 11) (All-inclusive Remuneration Package)

Requirements: Senior Certificate plus a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology or recognised equivalent qualification. Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Education Psychologist. At least 3 years’ experience as a practicing psychologist. Good computer skills and a valid driver’s license.. Willingness to travel, work irregular hours and be committed to meeting deadlines within tight timeframes.
Added advantage - experience in intern supervision; exposure in working with families or adults in education to support learning; and experience of working within the post-school education and training sector.
Competencies, Abilities and Skills: Professional psychological skills. Knowledge and understanding of ethical principles as stipulated by the HPCSA . Knowledge of applying Psychology in practice. Knowledge and experience of administration of psychometric assessment instruments. Experience in providing student support workshops and webinars. Knowledge of online assessment tools or willingness to learn. Knowledge of crisis intervention and trauma debriefing. Client/student service oriented. Therapeutic and counselling skills. Good communication, presentation and report writing skills. Understanding of ethical principles related to psycho-educational work.
Duties: Provide psycho-educational support and counselling to both students and staff at the college. Provide individual, family and group intervention (e.g., therapy) to support learning and development and address difficulties using a variety of psychological and educational approaches and techniques. Conduct psycho-education workshops (small and large groups) for students, divisions / units, and campuses. Develop individualised educational plans to support interventions. Provide crisis interventions and trauma debriefing. Participate in academic support and psycho-social projects as required by the college. Collect and analyse data to inform interventions to promote student success. Establish a college gender desk to support various forms of abuse and hate crimes that occur in the teaching and learning space. Take overall responsibility for professional administrative functions. Supervise the inter social workers. Conduct campus visits. Compile and submit monthly reports. Develop management plans. Assist in academic support across all delivery sites.
